Enger Brothers: New Drawings and Paintings
Mindy Wyatt Gallery, Closing June 7
Second Generation, Norwegian Artists Matthew and Mark Enger are featuring their latest work, “Enger Brothers: New Drawings and Paintings” at Mindy Wyatt Gallery in New York. The twin brothers work, includes figurative and large format images by Mark Enger and a new series of texture paintings in glossy finishes and a five year series of drawings by Matthew.
From Mark Enger’s painting titled “Washington Crossing the Delaware”, to Matthew Enger’s new 'cast vinyl painting' titled “Oprah”, the Enger brothers present vivid images of Pop and American History. Beneath spectrum's of vivid purples, yellows, and latex reds, are subtle undertones of storyboard lust. Each brother reflects upon iconic and subtle images creating a narrative and revolutionary style.
Born in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, the Enger Brothers grew up surrounded by military
officers, archeologists and Native Americans; both of these groups continue to resonate
within the works on view. After graduating from Oklahoma State University the twin brothers moved to New York after Matthew won a Senior Arts Department Contest.
The Enger Brothers have spent the past two decades reflecting the social, political and
artistic landscapes of American history through a unique outlaw-rock lens, gaining
attention. They quickly established themselves downtown as artists, making unique paintings and silkscreen prints. The Brothers continue to work in painted media and creating collections from their own unique experiences.
